Dog Wormer Treatments

Having the best dog wormer tablets and treatments on hand is a must for every dog parent. Dogs will eat absolutely anything! And when they eat nasty stuff outside, they can pick up a range of worms. Since some worms are small, your dog may not show symptoms of infection. Worming them regularly will help protect your pup and treat them for any worms they may have already picked up.  Preventing worm infestations in your dog before infection should always be the aim.

When dogs have an untreated worm infection, symptoms may only start to show when the infection becomes serious. If your dog does develop a worm infection, they may display some or all of the following symptoms:

  • Vomiting
  • Lethargy
  • Loss of weight
  • Anaemia
  • Damage to gut lining.

It is even possible for some worm eggs to be dangerous to children, posing a threat to their health. At Dr Carl, we stock a range of the most effective worming tablets for puppies and dog wormer tablets online.

Types of Worms

There are a number of worms that can take up residence within your dog's digestive system. Regularly administering dog wormer medication will eliminate the risk these worms pose to your canine’s health.

Tapeworms

Typically, tapeworms appear as grains of rice in your dog's poop. Some species of tapeworms are zoonotic, so they can also infect humans. Hunting and eating contaminated soil can spread some tapeworm species to dogs, but one type can be passed on by fleas. You should treat your dog for fleas at the same time as treating tapeworms. Check out our range of flea & tick products here.

Roundworms

The eggs and larvae of roundworms can be dangerous to humans, so protect your dog against this type of worm. The worms resemble spaghetti and can be found in your dog's poo or when they’re sick. There is a possibility that this can develop into Toxocariasis, which can result in loss of vision.  Dogs can get roundworm infections from eating soil or grass contaminated with worm eggs, or they can contract them if they hunt. Roundworm infection can be passed on to puppies if their mother has the infection, so puppies must be treated with puppy worming tablets as soon as they are old enough.

Hookworm

Using their sharp teeth, hookworms latch onto the intestine of your dog and feed on it, causing anaemia if left untreated. Dogs can contract hookworm larvae if they are ingested from infected animals, such as rodents or other wildlife, or infected soil. Mother's milk from a dog with hookworm can infect puppies with the same worm, so treatment and prevention are both critical.

Whipworms

Whipworm infections are common since the eggs can survive for up to five years in ideal conditions. Their tails are long and thin, and they live in the large intestine. In the early stages of an infection, dogs may show no symptoms. When the infection has progressed, dogs may develop diarrhoea, weight loss, or anaemia. Whipworms can’t be transmitted to humans, but they must still be prevented with dog wormer medication to protect the health of your pup.

Worming Treatments for Dogs

Dogs come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and breeds. Thankfully, dog worming (also called deworming) is quite simple. A variety of treatment options are available, but tablets and spot-ons are the most common. Regardless of a dog's size or stage of life, Dr Carl offers the best worming tablets for dogs, including both puppies and adults.

Dog Worming Tablets

Dog worming tablets are a popular choice for protecting your dog from worms. This type of dewormer can last for three months and protect your dog against one particular worm (often tapeworms), or all the worms that can infect your dog (also called an all-wormer or broad-spectrum wormer).

Our range includes many well-known quality brands including Virbac Tapewormer Tablets, Aristopet Allwormer Tablets, Credelio Plus, Drontal, Interceptor Spectrum, Milbemax, Milpro, NexGard Spectra and more.

Spot-On Worming Treatments

In addition to worms, spot-on dog worm treatments often protect your canine from a range of parasites. You can find brands like Advocate and Moxiclear here at Dr. Carl. We believe in only stocking the very best worming for dogs treatments because the health of your dog is paramount.

Dog Worming Liquid or Paste

Small dogs and puppies can be treated with worming liquids or pastes, which are easy to administer. We stock top brands like Drontal Allwormer Puppy Suspension 30ml. You can add the liquid or paste to their food or give it directly in the mouth. It’s important to note that if you are considering worming your puppy, you should consult your veterinarian first.
