Dr Carl stocks a variety of veterinarian-approved products to keep your cat happy and healthy. It is important to understand your cat's basic needs in order to ensure their long and healthy lives.

It was once believed that cats were 'low-maintenance' pets, leading to behavioural issues stemming from stress and boredom. As a result, feline obesity and stress-induced diseases such as urinary tract infections have increased.

It is certainly easier to keep an indoor cat healthy than one that ventures outside, but it is really the relationship between cat and owner that keeps cats healthy. Love and attention are the best ways to keep your cat happy and healthy.

Urinary Health

Because cat owners have to clean their litterboxes, they are very familiar with their pets' bathroom habits. While cleaning the box is not fun, it is a great way to monitor the health of your pet's urinary tract. A urinary tract infection may be the cause of changes in your cat's bathroom habits.

Cats of all ages can suffer from lower urinary tract problems. In some cats, urinary tract infections (UTI) are treated with antibiotics. In some cases, blockages and bladder stones require surgery to be removed.

Products such as Cystophan, CystoPro, Acidurin and Urimav for cats can help improve the health of your cat's urinary tract, prevent blockages and bladder stones, and reduce urinary tract infections.

Antidiarrheal Products

Diarrhoea is a symptom of many diseases rather than a disease itself. The following causes can lead to diarrhoea:

  • Dietary changes - cats are particularly sensitive to changes in their food brand and type.
  • The presence of infectious agents, such as bacteria, viruses, coccidia, and intestinal worms.
  • An imbalance in the flora of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Food poisoning caused by spoiled food.
  • A food allergy or intolerance.

Typically, cats do not need to see their vet if their diarrhoea lasts between 24 and 48 hours, however products such as Direa tablets can help. It is important to note that if your cat's diarrhoea persists for longer than two days, it is possible that your cat could become dehydrated. A veterinarian should be consulted at this point. In addition, your cat should be examined by a veterinarian if their diarrhoea is bloody, black, or accompanied by other symptoms such as vomiting, lethargy, or lack of appetite.

Hemp Oil Products

Is hemp seed oil safe for cats? The answer is yes! Cats can benefit greatly from hemp seed oil as a nutritional supplement, due to the high levels of nutrients and essential fatty acids in it.

A variety of health issues can be helped by essential fatty acids, including joint, heart, and kidney diseases. Aside from their anti-inflammatory properties, essential fatty acids also promote kidney function and normalise heart rhythms. It has also been shown that hemp seed oil contains essential fatty acids that can improve mood and reduce anxiety.

Cats benefit from HempPet's Hemp Oil Blend with Hoki Fish and MCT Oil, which is rich in EFAs, DHA, and EPA. There are no chemicals or pesticides in this product, it's 100% natural, and it's Australian made.

Probiotics

In order to ensure that your cat remains healthy, it is important to maintain a healthy digestive tract filled with a variety of beneficial bacteria.

Probiotics are an excellent way to provide your cat with extra good bacteria. Your cat can benefit from probiotics by preventing or treating a variety of illnesses, including digestive disorders. Probiotics contain live and friendly microorganisms.

The Pro-Kolin+ paste is a probiotic paste that provides gastrointestinal support to both cats and dogs. In addition to a natural, friendly bacteria, it contains kaolin, a neutral binding agent which aids in firming up faeces, and pectin, which soothes the gut lining.

Multi-strain ProN8ure probiotics are available in liquid, paste, powder and soluble powder forms, and contain added vitamin and mineral supplements for overall health support.

Veterinarian developed Vetafarm Synbiotic 180-S is a probiotic supplement for use in dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, and reptiles. Synbiotic 180-S contains nine strains of probiotics that help restore beneficial bacteria after illness or antibiotic treatment, strengthen your pets' immune system, and nourish gut flora.

Vomiting in Cats

There is a common misconception that vomiting is a normal behavior for cats, but you should make an appointment with your cat's veterinarian if your cat vomits more than once a week, or once every few weeks, for an extended period of time. This is not normal behavior.

Vomiting in cats can be caused by a variety of factors, including:

  • Regurgitating food - eating too much or too fast can lead to regurgitation of food
  • Food sensitivity - they may not tolerate diet changes
  • Foreign objects - cats might eat strings or hair ties if they shouldn't
  • Hairballs- especially common in long-haired cats, who can regurgitate hair balls to prevent intestinal blockages.
